Australia—the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship has commenced a broad reform of the Subclass 457 visa program. The reform is focussed on making the program more responsive to labour market needs, while protecting the employment and training opportunities of Australians and the rights of overseas workers.

RCSA 457 Labour Agreement Delegation to Lobby DPM’s Office

 

Australia—RCSA is being made aware of an increasing number of Members who are being frustrated by DEEWR in their attempts to obtain a 457 Labour Agreement. RCSA is planning the establishment of a delegation to present evidence of ongoing problems with DEEWR to the Deputy Prime Minister’s office. Australian Employer Responsibilities Information

                        

Australia—Employer Sanctions legislation has been in effect for almost 12 months. This legislation makes it an offence to hire illegal workers or refer them for work. After consultation with associations, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship has developed an employer checklist and a ‘quick reference’ guide to assist companies in their obligations. These are now available on the Department’s website
