Welcome

“Skills shortages are turning into a skills crisis. The era of the global workforce is upon us. We’re competing, not only between ourselves but with the rest of the world for workers with skills and talents. What can be done to protect ourselves from becoming a casualty?”

The Australian workforce is ageing. Indeed, the population itself is getting older; and to stem the loss of skilled workers, the business community is seeking short term and long term solutions in the untapped workforce and workers from overseas.

The Government is actively engaging the untapped workforce through a series of initiatives to bring people back into the workforce, and business seeks answers to the drop in apprenticeships and skills that threaten their profitability, the economy and the Australian way of life.

Is migration a solution…for long?

The RCSA Workforce Symposium 2006 asks the question, by reviewing the national and international political workplace relations landscape; the economic, commercial and social effects of the global workforce; current and possible solutions; and the future of the global workforce for Australia.

On 11th April 2006 at the Melbourne Convention Centre, the RCSA, government, academia and industry will gather to answer the question of if, how and for how long the global workforce can be an answer to Australia’s skills shortages and to explore how to improve Australia’s workforce viability during the end of business boundaries.
