Casual Challenges:  What You Need to Know

Overview:

In 2018 there were many changes to our industrial relations landscape that impacted the employment arrangements or entitlements of casual employees.

These changes are often more complex when considering employment arrangements in a labour hire context.

Join this live classroom opportunity to bring yourself or your team up to speed on the challenges associated with engaging casual employees in the labour hire industry in 2019.

The Session will Cover:

  • Understand the risks associated with terminating casual employees in the labour hire industry, including:
    • When the Host Employer wants to terminate an assignment before its expected end date; or
    • When the Host Employer wants to replace the existing casual employee for reasons relating to performance, conduct or capacity; and
    • Risks associated with regular casuals or long serving casuals??
  • Refresh your knowledge on the new casual conversion obligations, including:
    • Employer obligations; and
    • What to do when you receive a request to convert to permanent from a casual on-hire employee; and
    • What are reasonable grounds for refusing a request and some learning's from key cases???
  • Develop practical knowledge about the Fair Work Amendment (Casual Loading Offset) Regulations 2018 (Cth) and how employers can offset the casual loading paid to casual employees against entitlements they would have been owed if the employee is determined to have been a permanent employee during any period throughout their employment??
  • Summary of key award changes in 2018 impacting casual employment.
