the hardest job in recruitment

Session Overview

Off the back of delivering countless critically acclaimed speaking tours around the world, Greg Savage is back with an all new masterclass for any recruiter who has to juggle the demands of having personal targets and managing consultants.

The role of a billing manager is THE most challenging job in recruitment, and often means billing big fees, managing clients and candidates, meeting personal targets, but also handling, training and minding a team of recruiters as well. It’s often a disastrous transition for a good recruiter who is thrust into Team Leadership. The skills are entirely different and the balancing of the two jobs a uniquely hard challenge. Yet it’s so critical to recruitment business success!

This session is essential for anyone who aspires to have a successful management career in recruitment, including:
  • Senior Consultants
  • Team leaders
  • Managers
  • Managers of Managers
This half-day master class has zero ‘theory’. It’s all learned on the job from managing teams of recruiters while billing and learning how the best Billing Managers succeed.

Includes a Q and A over lunch with Greg Savage

Session content will include:

  • Why a Billing Team Leader or Billing Manager is the most crucial job in Agency recruitment

It’s how the company gets leverage though people; the big biller continues to bill but mentors up and comers. It’s a career pathway which plays into retention. It creates a first level layer of management, which is the building block for business growth.

  • Why a BTL or Billing Manager is the hardest job in recruitment.

What the real challenge is. Why people so often fail. The mistakes to avoid. What the rewards can be if you get it right

  • From Recruiter to Leader

Leadership behaviours defined. What gets you promoted and what doesn't. You going to lead people now, but why would anyone want to be led by you? Leadership can be learned. Leadership is action. The Savage six ‘C’s of leadership. Clarity, Climate, Communications, Coaching, Courage, Creativity.

  • The BTL. Managing Priorities

This is a big one. Where to spend your time! The balance between selling, billing, coaching, performance management, planning, hiring. Working out where to spend your time for peak productivity

  • Productivity Tips for the BTL or Manager

Building a team that enhances Productivity Crunch the numbers. Personal Skills Balance Sheet. Understanding your management style. Stick to your hiring criteria

  • Your 'standing' in the team

How to earn your credibility, set the tone of relationship with the team, differentiate between ‘friends’ and ‘reports’. Big mistakes to avoid

  • Personal Organisation

The critical skills of organising your day and week, working to a plan, candidate /job order selection, prioritising your workload

  • Effective Delegation

What to delegate, when and how. Getting Consultant buy-in and follow through

  • Quality control as a way of life

How to build operating standards into the business without becoming a nag. Getting staff buy-in. Creating the “way we do things around here” manifesto

  • Meetings that add value

Meetings can be a disaster. Suck up your energy and your time. However, they can drive effectiveness too. Understanding what the goal of meetings is. Understanding the cost of wasted meeting time. The golden rules of productive meetings. The key meetings you should have and how to run them. Daily WIPs, Team meetings, and the most critical Consultant 1 on 1. How to manage them, get buy-in and make them effective.

  • Effective positive management via KPIs

Activity leads to results. But who loves to be ‘micro-managed’? The wrong way, the right way, the magic of an effective backwards plan to get recruiters to love their KPIs.

  • Coaching

The key skill of developing staff through live coaching on the job (not training). Coaching the average performers to goodness, and the good performers to greatness.

  • Managing the recruitment prima donna

Sometimes the bigger the biller, the bigger the pain in the butt. How to manage a high performer with behavioural challenges. The risk of having ‘different rules’ for big billers.

  • Managing social media and personal branding

Needs to be done, but no time wasting!

  • Performance Management

Managing underperformers and serial mediocrity. The magic of a 90-day performance plan.

What the attendees said

This was a really great session for me. I'm so excited to take what I've learnt and apply it to my work. The session was jam packed with tips, tricks and information that will help you become a standout recruiter. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

 Sarah Solski - Aptitude Recruitment

The savage sell training session has been fun, interesting and extremely insightful when it comes to perfecting what we do every day as Industry Specialists and Influencers. I think it would be valuable for any kind of recruiters... let's say rookies, consultants, senior consultants or even managers. Highly recommended as it reinforces some concepts that we already know and we have forgotten about and also provides novelty and a vision of what will happen in the future.

Ernesto Vinagre – Randstad

The session was excellent for both experienced recruiters and recruiters new to the industry. Greg and Chris were both motivating, engaging and the content was excellent. I also loved the humour they used. Thank you for a great morning.

Kay Watts, On Q Recruitment

I brought 6 of my Account Managers from Kennedy Reid to today's session and they all agreed it was an informative and entertaining session. They all had some great take outs from the session. As a business owner it is great to see members of my team get so much out of a training session.

Stuart Freeman, Kennedy Reid

The Adecco Perth team really enjoyed the Savage Sell Training today. Greg & Chris did an amazing job at delivering this. They were both very engaging and interacted with their audience to ensure we were kept interested through the morning. It's always good to refresh our recruitment strategy! We will definitely take some key points from today and put them to good use in our everyday working lives.

Michelle Kearns, Senior Recruitment Consultant, Adecco Australia
