International Women’s Day

8 March 2024

RCSA is a proud advocate of workplace diversity and inclusion.

Today we celebrate women.

On March 8 the world celebrates International Women’s Day. It is a day to pause and raise awareness about gender discrimination, gender pay disparity and to advocate for a world free of bias and stereotypes.

RCSA is an organisation that encourages all members to be diverse, equitable and inclusive in their hiring practices. This year’s theme is Inspire Inclusion. It is about shining a light on the importance of diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society with a call for action to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes and create environments where all women are valued and respected.

“Today is a day to celebrate the achievements of all women, says RCSA CEO Charles Cameron.

“As leaders in the world of work, RCSA and its members have a responsibility to strive towards inclusive and equitable practices. The fact is, there are still many challenges that women face in the labour market. Through education and awareness, we can all play a part in ending gender disparity in the workplace.”

RCSA President Penny O’Reilly, is a staunch champion for women’s rights in the workplace and says the recruitment industry holds great influence over Australia and New Zealand’s employment landscapes.

“I am proud of the steps we have taken as an industry towards improving the state of workplace gender equality in Australia and New Zealand and while I acknowledge there is still progress to be made, I am confident that we are moving in the right direction.

“For me, recruitment has always been about much more than just matching individuals with jobs. As recruiters, I believe we have the ability to influence the way candidates approach their careers and more importantly, the way employers think, behave and act when building their workforce, says Penny.

“The recruitment industry supports tens of thousands of employers make decisions everyday about the talent that will operate within their businesses – there is no question we have the ability to influence the gender equality situation on both a local and global scale.

“I am regularly encouraged by the conversations I have with other recruitment industry leaders about the steps their firms are taking to proactively promote inclusive hiring practices that support a culture of fairness and equity.

To be a female leader and an executive in an industry that promotes and supports equality, progression and inclusion is incredibly gratifying.”

As proud members of the World Employment Confederation, RCSA is encouraging its members to spread the word by jumping on board a campaign created by the global employment body, celebrating women in the workplace.
