Indigenous Cultural Awareness

Overview:

Diversity Australia’s  Indigenous Cultural Awareness webinar is an overview of all key issues relevant to the development of a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the workplace and through the recruitment system. 

This webinar will touch on the following topics:

  • Define and distinguish between cultural awareness education and cultural safety for Indigenous within the workforce. This is a reflective, awareness raising activity for recruiters 
  • Emphasise that participation in cultural safety training and further learning, planning and improvement is needed in order to develop a culturally safe workplace
  • Contextualise the education activity in current National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workplace initiatives, including the
  • Meet criteria for cultural appropriateness as set by the National Standards for Public and Private Sectors 
  • Have a practical focus and be relevant to, and engaging for, diverse learners in a range of professions, staff, and professionals
  • Identify common barriers to cultural safety in workspaces
  • Identify good practices for cultural safety (e.g. in relation to access, identification of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communication and engagement with local communities)
  • Encourage participants to reflect on their own practice in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and identify opportunities to enhance cultural safety recruitment practices 

  

Meet the facilitator: Rob Davey
Rob

Rob Davey is a Director of Diversity Australia Pty Ltd. Rob leads the organisation which specialises in diversity performance, managing change, strategy alignment, leadership, business planning, and people and culture. 

Rob has worked with many clients across multiple industries on various people related strategies using a model around self-management, relationship management and working ‘in’ and ‘on’ the business. With an unfailing focus on skills and tools for individuals enabling a genuine contribution to organisational success, Rob’s work always starts with the end in mind. He ensures absolute clarity of desired outcomes and works closely with workshop participants, be they senior leadership teams or line managers, to ensure their alignment and ownership of improved performance in their role

An online webinar (GotoWebinar) with the live session  recorded and a copy of the recording distributed to all registered participants
The webinar access link is sent to the email address specified at the time of registration.  This email is sent the day prior to OR on the morning of the scheduled date
