Navigating the Upcoming Changes to Fixed-Term Contracts
_
Last year, the Federal Government passed its Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Act 2022. Amongst other significant reforms to Australia’s industrial relations framework, the Act also placed limitations on the use of fixed-term contracts.

For fixed-term contracts entered into or varied post the legislation coming into effect, the limitations prevent fixed-term contracts from running for more than two years or being renewed or extended more than once within that length of time. Employees already working under fixed-term contracts will also be impacted by the new restrictions.

With the changes due to take effect on 6 December 2023, it is critical that you start planning for them now. To assist, RCSA invites members to hear FCB Workplace Law Partner, Nick Tindley, about how these restrictions will impact you’re your current and future workforce, and what you will need to do to make sure you remain compliant with the law.
