The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes) Bill 2023 (First Bill) was initially introduced by the Federal Government in September 2023, encompassing significant alterations across various aspects of workplace relations. However, subsequent negotiations with the Albanese Government and the crossbench led to the Federal Government dividing the Bill into two parts. The first set of amendments was passed on 7 December 2023, receiving Royal Assent and becoming law on 14 December 2023.
On 12 February 2024, Parliament approved the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes No.2) Bill 2023 (Second Bill), which encompasses the remaining changes.
