How to Run a Successful Temp Desk

Running A Successful Temp Desk

Overview:

Whilst there are many similarities between temporary and permanent recruitment, running a successful temp/contract desk presents particular challenges.

We often hear from temp recruiters who:
  • feel like they are working at 100km an hour, but not getting any further ahead
  • get frustrated that they are always in ‘reactive’ mode and don’t get time to be proactive
  • can't attract candidates without a vacancy to ‘sell’ so can’t build the talent pool they need
  • get frustrated by candidates who let them down or disappear
  • get frustrated by unresponsive clients who cause unnecessary and unhelpful delays
  • would love to deal with larger clients but get blocked by procurement and supplier lists
  • get paid fees that don’t reflect the huge amount of hard work they’re putting in
  • want to differentiate themselves from their competitors, but aren’t sure how
This live and interactive temp desk workshop will equip learners with the mindset, skills and behaviours to take back control. We will use breakout rooms, group discussions and online activities to help you find the strategies that work best for you.

This workshop will be held across two days: Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th October from 9.30am - 1.30pm AEST each day.

Learning Objectives:

Participants of this workshop will:
  • Be able to define a clear picture of what an exceptional temp desk looks like for them
  • Create stronger candidate relationships through emotionally intelligent, thorough screening
  • Identify how to obtain different outcomes with clients and candidates through changing their behaviours
  • Position themselves to give a more responsive client service by anticipating requirements and proactive talent pool building
  • Discover tips to help identify, attract, engage and retain a high quality temporary workforce
  • Understand the importance of reputation – building a personal brand that results in clients and candidates approaching them
  • Learn a range time management strategies that will enable them to move from reactive to proactive

Who Should Attend:

RCSA has a three pillar learning model. This model allows individuals to identify the best L&D content for them based on their level of experience in the recruitment & staffing industry. This workshop has been identified as 'Develop'. For more information about our pillars, see the Learning & Development page of our website.

Meet the facilitator: Sarah Gordon

Sarah (known to her friends and colleagues as H) started her recruitment career as a temp consultant for Brook Street in the mid-1990s building industrial and commercial desks, before joining Josephine Sammons where she held a position on the Board of Directors for many years (during which time she also maintained a ‘hands on’ delivery role, personally generating over £GBP ½ million per annum).

Since 2016 she has been delivering training and mentoring to the recruitment sector, helping recruiters grow their business and their professional reputations. She works for a range of organisations, including the UK Recruitment & Employment Confederation – for whom she delivers training (open courses and bespoke in-company delivery), conducting compliance audits, and study coaching their range of professional recruitment qualifications.

An Oxford law graduate, Member of the CIPD and an Honorary Fellow of the UK Recruitment & Employment Confederation, her areas of expertise include: business development & differentiation; leadership & management; diversity & inclusion; candidate sourcing; and compliance & best practice.

When she’s not training, she can be found singing with her local choir, performing on stage with one of her two amateur dramatics groups, or enjoying the odd karaoke evening!
